(Kitco News) - Mining company MMG reported today that concentrate transportation from the Las Bambas copper mine in Peru recommenced on 11 March 2023 (Peru time) and site operations are returning to full capacity.

In a press release, the company said it welcomes the removal of roadblocks in the Velille district, which had disrupted transport logistics.

"Following the resumption of concentrate transport, Las Bambas will work to progressively reduce stockpiles of copper concentrate held on site," the company added.

MMG noted it continues to work closely with communities along the Southern Road Corridor to reach "enduring agreements to maintain supply and export logistics."

Las Bambas is a large, long-life open pit copper mine located in Cotabambas in the Apurimac region of southern Peru. With an estimated mine life of 18 plus years, the operation produces copper concentrate, with by-products of gold and silver, as well as molybdenum concentrate through conventional processing methods.

Headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, MMG is a mid-tier, global producer of base metals including copper and zinc. The company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx: 1208) and operates and develops copper, zinc and other base metals products across Australia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Peru. The major shareholder of the company is China Minmetals.
