(Kitco News) - The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics of Peru (INEI) announced today that the domestic mining and hydrocarbons sector expanded by 0.27% in February 2023 compared to February 2022.
In its press release, INEI said that this improvement was a result of the positive performance in the domestic metallic mining subsector (2.51%), supported by higher production of copper (10.8%) and iron ore (38.3%).
This was partially offset by lower production of tin (-99.3%), molybdenum (-22.5%), lead (-10.1%), silver (-8.6%), zinc (-5.9 %) and gold (-4.9%).
INEI added that Peru’s hydrocarbons subsector contracted by 11.53% due to the lower extraction of crude oil (-32.9%) and natural gas liquids (-6.3%); this was partially offset by the increase in natural gas extraction (2.7%).
