(Kitco News) - China's Ganfeng Lithium, the world's largest lithium metal producer and the largest lithium compounds supplier in mainland China, yesterday announced the first production of lithium carbonate at its Cauchari-Olaroz salt lake project in Argentina.
The company’s Cauchari-Olaroz salt lake project is located in Jujuy Province, Argentina, with total lithium resource of approximately 24.58 million tons of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE).
The project is currently planned to produce 40,000 tons of LCE per annum in phase I and no less than 20,000 tons of LCE in phase II. The first lithium carbonate products are produced by the production capacity of phase I.
In a press release, the company said it expects that with the subsequent ramp-up of production capacity and optimization of production lines, the project will gradually produce battery-grade products.
Ganfeng Lithium assets are located across the globe and it is the only company in the lithium industry that has the commercial scale technologies to extract lithium from brine, ore and recycled materials.
The company's lithium compound capacity ranks third worldwide, first in China, and it is the world's largest lithium metal producer. The group has complete battery manufacturing and recycling technology.
