(Kitco News) - Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX), one of the world’s largest copper producers, reported today that the company is investigating a cybersecurity incident affecting its information systems.
In a statement, the company said it is assessing the impact and proactive measures are being taken to address the situation, adding that the company is working closely with third-party experts and law enforcement.
FCX said that to date, there has been limited impact on production.
“Transitional solutions are being planned and implemented to secure information systems as quickly as possible,” the company said.
FCX is a leading international mining company with headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. FCX operates geographically diverse assets with significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum. FCX is one of the world’s largest copper producers.
Shares of the company traded down 2.25% today.
