Kitco News - British Columbia's Nisga'a Nation is establishing Canada's largest majority Indigenous-owned public company.
The Nisga'a Nation and Vega Mining will will acquire from the Nisga'a Nation the rights to five annual benefit payment entitlements for mines and projects within the Golden Triangle Area in in exchange for common shares in the capital of Vega. The company will be renamed Nations Royalty Corp.
The new royalty company includes mining heavy hitter Frank Giustra, who will be strategic advisor to the Nations Royalty.
Co-founder and interim president will be Robert McLeod, executive chair of Blackwolf Copper & Gold.
"Nations Royalty will create a unique opportunity for economic reconciliation and increased transparency in the mining industry. A core focus of the Company is to build capacity for Indigenous people in the management of public companies and capital markets, which we hope will result in the creation of additional Indigenous economic ventures," said Giustra in a news release.
