(Kitco News) - Northern Europe is a great place to build a mine, said Taj Singh, president and CEO of First Nordic Metals.

In early May Singh spoke to Kitco Mining at Deutsche Goldmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.

In its corporate presentation First Nordic Metals (TSX.V: FNM) says it is one of the largest mineral claimholders in Sweden. Its flagship is the 2.4-million-ounce gold Barsele project, a joint venture with Agnico Eagle Mines.

Singh is a long-time mining executive. Singh was a founding president and CEO at Mexico-focused developer Discovery Silver. During his 5-year tenure, the company grew to a market capitalization of over C$500 million, representing +30X growth. Singh was also on the board of GT Gold, which was acquired by Newmont for C$393 million.

Singh said Scandanavia is a great mining region. Singh said the area is seeing "a lot of capital expansion" with activity from Agnico Eagle and Rupert Resources.

"When I started digging into it, it's really a ready-set-go area for mining. It's an amazing tax structure for companies. There is a long history—especially in Sweden—of mining."
